Eggcups manufactured out of aluminum cylinders. Each one is press-fit with a custom-made anodized aluminum ring.
One of my favorites!
Through a combination of sketching, 3D modeling in SolidWorks, and physical prototypes made of various materials (clay, plastic, aluminum), I developed the form I wanted for my eggcups.
Manufacturing of the eggcups on the lathe. The eggcups started out as solid cylinders of aluminum, which I then drilled into, formed on the outside, sanded, and then parted off the aluminum stock.
I also created thin aluminum rings, which I had anodized to use as color accents. Using a hydraulic press, I press-fit the anodized rings onto the spaces I had cut into the eggcups. This was the last (and most terrifying) stage of the manufacturing process.
